Can Not Upload Iso To Vcenter

This post is applicable to customers using VMware vCenter Server 6.5.

Problem:

  1. vCenter Server deployed with Self-Signed Certificates.
  2. Login to vSphere Web Customer.
  3. Try to upload a file to a Datastore and receive the message: "The functioning failed for an undetermined reason. Typically this problem occurs due to certificates that the browser does not trust. If you are using self-signed or custom certificates, open the URL in a new browser tab and accept the certificate, then retry the operation."
  4. Try to deploy an OVA file and the deploy OVA task hangs at 0% and must be cancelled.

Solution:

  1. Open the URL of the vCenter Server: https://<IP Accost or hostname of vCenter Server>
  2. Note that the browser marks the SSL URL as "Non Secure".
  3. On the "Getting Started" page, select the "Download trusted root CA certificates" from the bottom right hand corner of the page.
  4. Decompress the downloaded Cypher file and browse to the Os folder applicative to your desktop. In this example information technology is Windows.
  5. Double click on the Security Document file.
  6. In the Certificate window that opens, select the "Install Certificate" button.
  7. In the "Certificate Import Wizard", select the "Local Machine" Shop Location and press Next.
  8. On the "Certificate Shop" window of the "Certificate Import Sorcerer", select "Place all certificates in the post-obit store" and browse to "Trusted Root Document Government", press Side by side and then press Finish to consummate the import process.
  9. Restart the browser and enter the vSphere Spider web Client "Getting Started" URL.
  10. Verify that the browser marks the SSL URL equally "Secure".
  11. Uploading files to Datastores and deploying OVA files should now work.

Background:

In previous versions of vSphere, information technology was enough to trust the vCenter Server certificate from your browser and the vSphere Web Client was fully functional. In vSphere 6.5, if the cocky-signed document of vCenter Server is not located in the "Trusted Root Document Authorities" of the Document Store, then the vSphere Web Customer volition not exist trusted to share files with vCenter Server.
